Summary

Dr. Wasdani is a Research Associate at the DST-Centre for Policy Research at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, since Jan 2020. She was awarded an Accelerate Postdoctoral Fellowship from Mitacs (Federal Government of Canada) and was the first postdoctoral fellow at Royal Roads University, Canada appointed in the Faculty of Management. Wasdani’s research focuses on entrepreneurship and new venture formation, inclusive organisations with a special interest in gender studies and waste management. To date, she has published numerous books, journal articles, chapters, and case studies. Her most recent (edited) book, Transnational Entrepreneurship: Issues of SME Internationalization in the Indian Context, is aimed at developing an understanding of the strategies and processes involved when SMEs internationalize with their local products and services. With a focus on emerging economies, the book interrogates key contemporary issues in three dimensions of Transnational Entrepreneurship and Internationalization of SMEs, i.e., the use of individual and firm-level resources for internationalization, the role of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in facilitating internationalization, and the role of organizational transformation and change in enabling internationalization.

Wasdani is currently pursuing research on Scientometrics institutional voids, microfinance, and gender in relation to consumer markets. She is also developing a scale to measure opportunity realization potential of entrepreneurs.

Experience

Wasdani has held full-time and visiting appointments at academic institutions in several different countries. In these positions, she has taught at several post-secondary stages, including having delivered courses in undergraduate, MBA, and faculty development (doctoral equivalent) programs. She has also supervised, to completion, research students at the master’s level. Wasdani is currently the Associate Editor of South Asian Journal of Management.

She has been a co-investigator for many research projects funded by several national and international agencies including Asian Development Bank Institute; Expenditure Management Commission, Government of India; National Foundation of Corporate Governance, Government of India; Fiscal Policy Institute, and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Government of Karnataka.

Wasdani also has rich industry experience, having held consultant positions at Grant Thornton India LLP; Sir. M. Visvesvaraya Economic Research Centre at the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and; Kerala State Poverty Eradication Mission (Kudumbashree).

Credentials

Wasdani earned her PhD from the Department of Management Studies at the Indian Institute of Science and wrote much of her doctoral dissertation at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, under the supervision of Professor Mathew J. Manaimala. Prior to her PhD, she earned a short-term fellowship in the the School of Business, Kwansei Gakuin Daigaku (University), Japan, which was fully funded by a Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship

She previously earned a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Mathematics from Madras University. She graduated with distinction in quantitative methods from Madras University in 1998.
